CES is pleased to host the roundtable, “Brexit: What happened and what\u2019s next?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom\u00a0this past June resulted in a decision that the UK should leave the European Union (EU). This\u00a0vote has\u00a0thrown\u00a0Europe into\u00a0uncharted territory. Combined with economic challenges and the refugee crisis, the Brexit vote has fed\u00a0uncertainty about public support for the\u00a0European integration project and about future prospects for\u00a0the EU\u00a0more generally.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0roundtable brings together Canadian experts to examine the meaning of these developments. The first panel will\u00a0by\u00a0explore why the “Leave” vote won,\u00a0the risks and opportunities that referendums pose, and\u00a0implications of the vote\u00a0for Britain’s\u00a0political party system. In a second panel,\u00a0speakers\u00a0will\u00a0focus on\u00a0political, economic, and legal implications of Brexit for the EU itself\u00a0and also\u00a0consider whether\u00a0Brexit\u00a0is\u00a0likely to have an economic impact on Canada.<\/p>\n
