CES is pleased to host a research seminar, “Integration and disintegration in Central Europe. Border twin towns as laboratories of transborder cooperation<\/strong>,” with Dr. Jaros\u0142aw Ja\u0144czak, Chair of European Studies, European University Viadrina, and short-term visiting scholar in September with the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS).<\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>: This research paper\u00a0looks at integration and disintegration processes in Central Europe from the perspective of border\u00a0twin towns. The premise of the paper is that integration processes, as seen from the perspective of the border, evidence deboundarization, which is inspired by continental integration, but also show the presence of the contradictory phenomenon of defrontierization following EU\u00a0accession. These processes depend on the category of boundaries in a region and are related to the context of bilateral relations between neighboring countries, as well as to the Europeanization of the internal and external borders of the Schengen zone.<\/p>\n

CES research seminars are open to graduate students and faculty. Attendees are welcome to join this event online or in person at the MacOdrum Library, Discovery Centre, Room 482. Attendance online presupposes some minimal equipment requirements for access and viewing; instructions for login to access the webinar will be emailed separately. Please note: CES does not provide any equipment or technical support for attending the webinar online.<\/p>\n
