The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Carleton University is pleased to announce the publication of a special issue of the Journal of European Public Policy<\/em> that has originated from our research workshop on “EU Trade Policy in the 21st Century”, held at the University of Ottawa in March 2018. The special issue has been edited by Patrick Leblond and Crina Viju-Miljusevic. Guest editors: Patrick Leblond and Crina Viju-Miljusevic<\/em><\/p>\n

The politicization of EU trade policy is a recent phenomenon that has received little academic attention until now, which is why it is a key focus of this special collection of articles on the EU\u2019s trade policy in the 21st<\/sup> century. It is not sufficient to analyse the contested nature of EU trade politics in particular trade agreement negotiations; the politicization process and its impact on EU trade policy require more systematic and deeper analysis across all EU trade negotiations. As such, it is necessary to examine the factors that give rise to politicized trade negotiations in some cases but not others. Additionally, it is important to analyze the EU policy changes in response to the perceived politicization.<\/p>\n
