Dr. Melita Gabric\u030c<\/strong><\/p>\n Ambassador of the European Union to Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ambassador Gabric\u030c<\/strong> began her tenure at the helm of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada on 1 February 2021, after serving as Ambassador of Slovenia to Canada since 2018. Ambassador Gabric\u030c holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and has extensive experience in both bilateral and multilateral international relations. Prior to her Canadian assignment, she served as Slovenia\u2019s Director of Development Co-operation and Humanitarian Aid. Previously she served as Diplomatic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister as well as to the President of Slovenia. Ambassador Gabric\u030c was also the Secretary General of the Bled Strategic Forum and led the Slovenian national process on business and human rights. She held the position of Senior Advisor on Human Rights to two Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. She was also the Consul General of Slovenia in New York.<\/p>\n Since 2020, Ambassador Gabric\u030c has had the honour of serving as Chairperson of the Women Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa.<\/p>\n The Ambassador speaks Slovene, English, French, and Serbian\/Croatian. She enjoys jogging, downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as skating. She has a keen appreciation of contemporary art, literature, and design, and savours the beautiful natural landscapes and the rich cultural offerings of Canada.<\/p>\n About the Delegation of the European Union to Canada<\/p>\n Established in 1976, the Delegation of the European Union to Canada is a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and the natural contact point in Canada between the EU and the Canadian authorities. It also has a strong public diplomacy mandate designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the European Union as well as EU-Canada relations. Poste\u0301e depuis 2018 a\u0300 Ottawa comme Ambassadrice de Slove\u0301nie au Canada et a\u0300 Cuba, elle dirigeait auparavant la cellule d\u2019aide au de\u0301veloppement et de la coope\u0301ration humanitaire au sein du Ministe\u0300re des Affaires e\u0301trange\u0300res slove\u0300ne. Au cours de sa carrie\u0300re, l\u2019Ambassadrice Gabric\u030c a e\u0301galement e\u0301te\u0301 conseille\u0300re principale en matie\u0300re de droits de l’Homme aupre\u0300s de deux pre\u0301sidents de l’Assemble\u0301e ge\u0301ne\u0301rale des Nations Unies, conseille\u0300re diplomatique du Pre\u0301sident et du Premier Ministre de Slove\u0301nie et Consul ge\u0301ne\u0301ral de Slove\u0301nie a\u0300 New York. Elle a e\u0301galement occupe\u0301 la fonction de Secre\u0301taire General du Forum Strate\u0301gique de Bled et a dirige\u0301 le processus national slove\u0300ne sur les entreprises et les droits humains.<\/p>\n Depuis 2020, l\u2019Ambassadrice Gabric\u030c a e\u0301galement l\u2019honneur de pre\u0301sider le l\u2019Association des Femmes Chef(fe) de Mission Diplomatique a\u0300 Ottawa.<\/p>\n L\u2019Ambassadrice parle Slove\u0300ne, Anglais, Franc\u0327ais, et Serbo-Croate. Dans son temps libre, elle pratique le jogging, le ski alpin et le ski de fond, ainsi que le patinage.
