The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Carleton University<\/strong> has directed its efforts in 2024-26 towards the following priority areas:<\/p>\n

  1. Impacts of the War in Ukraine on the EU and its Eastern Policy (Lead: Joan DeBardeleben)<\/strong>: This work package focuses on the organization of a research workshop and publications that examine how Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine has impacted European integration and the EU\u2019s security, economic, energy, and neighbourhood policies<\/span>.<\/li>\n
  2. Entrenched Populism – EU Democracy a Decade after Brexit and Trump (Leads: Jennifer Evans and Achim Hurrelmann)<\/strong>: This work package focuses on the organization of a research workshop and publications that examine the state of democracy in the EU and whether\/how populist political forces have become entrenched in the EU\u2019s and its member states\u2019 democratic systems<\/span>.<\/li>\n
  3. Policy dialogue (Leads: Patrick Leblond and Crina Viju-Miljusevic<\/strong>): This work package focuses on the organization of public events and the production of outreach materials that discuss current topics of EU policy-making. Policy dialogue activities are aimed at an audience of policy practitioners in the public service, diplomatic and business community, civil society, and the general public<\/span>.<\/li>\n
  4. Training for university students (Lead: Achim Hurrelmann)<\/strong>: This work package focuses on establishing and overseeing a system of grants for Carleton University students to support their participation in immersive educational activities, such as experiential learning programs or field research in Europe. <\/span><\/li>\n
  5. High school outreach (Lead: Crina Viju-Miljusevic)<\/strong>: This work package aims to increase awareness about the EU among high school students through workshops for teachers, mini-conferences for students, and the development of publicly accessible lesson plans.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
