Each <strong>year, three students are selected to participate in a one-week study tour of various EU institutions and the Canadian Mission to the EU in Brussels<\/strong>. Winners will also have the chance to attend a Midday EU press briefing. Prior to the trip, which is paid for by the European Union, winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in Ottawa in May 2013, an event attended by senior journalists, government officials and the diplomatic corps.<\/p>\n<p>The Award is open to students in all Canadian universities and higher education establishments. Applicants are invited to make a submission focusing on current issues facing the European Union or EU-Canada relations no later than:\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Monday<\/strong><strong>, 11 February 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The competition is open to all Canadian students<\/span><\/strong> and aims to reinforce links between the people of the European Union and Canada, and to promote awareness of the European Union among a new generation of Canadian students and journalists.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility:<\/h3>\n<p>In order to be eligible, students must be:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; enrolled in a Canadian university or other higher education establishment, and<br \/>\n&#8211; Canadian citizen or permanent resident.<\/p>\n<h3>How to apply:<\/h3>\n<p>Applicants are invited to make a submission focusing on a current issue facing the European Union or EU-Canada relations. In terms of format, the work may be either written (a news story of maximum 1,000 words) or audiovisual (a report of up to 90 seconds duration).<\/p>\n<p>Students are encouraged to prepare their entries as if they were intended to be published in Canada in a newspaper or magazine, or broadcast on TV or radio. Submissions should be prepared with a Canadian audience in mind. The jury will pay particular attention to journalistic qualities and potential, including rigorous research and factual accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>The closing date for applications is <strong>Monday, 11 February 2013<\/strong>\u00a0(postmark). In addition to the above mentioned composition (in either English or French), applications must comprise:<\/p>\n<p>1. The student&#8217;s r\u00e9sum\u00e9 (curriculum vitae).<\/p>\n<p>2. A letter of motivation clearly outlining the reasons for applying and the anticipated benefits to be derived from participation in the study trip, with particular reference to the student&#8217;s future career objectives.<\/p>\n<p>3. Letter of reference or official administrative document issued by the university or college, verifying student status and enrolment.<\/p>\n<p>4. The jury will consist of five members. Two jurors will be practising Canadian journalists, or other Canadians active in media circles. One juror will be a Canadian academic with expertise in the field of journalism or European Union studies. The other two jurors will be representatives of EU missions in Ottawa. The decisions of the Jury will be final. Pour \u00eatre \u00e9ligibles, les \u00e9tudiants doivent \u00eatre:<br \/>\n&#8211; inscrit(e)s dans une institution de hautes \u00e9tudes canadienne, et<br \/>\n-citoyens\u00a0 canadiens\u00a0 ou r\u00e9sidents\u00a0 permanents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comment poser sa candidature?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e9tudiant(e)s qui r\u00e9pondent aux crit\u00e8res d&#8217;\u00e9ligibilit\u00e9 sont invit\u00e9(e)s \u00e0 soumettre une composition journalistique individuelle traitant d\u2019une question d\u2019actualit\u00e9 sur l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne ou les relations UE-Canada. En ce qui concerne le format, il peut s\u2019agir d\u2019une composition \u00e9crite (jusqu\u2019\u00e0 1,000 mots pour un article d\u2019actualit\u00e9) ou audiovisuelle (soit un reportage d\u2019une dur\u00e9e allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 90 secondes).<\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e9tudiant(e)s sont invit\u00e9(e)s \u00e0 pr\u00e9parer leur composition comme si elle devait \u00eatre publi\u00e9e au Canada dans un journal ou un magazine ou pass\u00e9e \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision ou \u00e0 la radio. Elles doivent \u00eatre r\u00e9dig\u00e9es de telle sorte qu\u2019elle puisse int\u00e9resser des lecteurs ou des spectateurs canadiens. Le Jury portera une attention toute particuli\u00e8re aux qualit\u00e9s et potentiel journalistiques qui d\u00e9montrent une recherche rigoureuse et l\u2019exactitude des faits.<\/p>\n<p>La date limite pour la soumission de candidature est<strong> le lundi 11\u00a0f\u00e9vrier 2013<\/strong>\u00a0(le cachet de la poste faisant foi).<\/p>\n<p>En plus des compositions susmentionn\u00e9es en anglais ou en fran\u00e7ais, les dossiers doivent inclure:<br \/>\n1.
