Dr. Mehdi Sanaei is Senior Fellow of the Centre for Governance and Public Policy at Carleton University. He received his appointment to begin in May 2022 as a Senior Fellow with the Centre (2022-2025).
Dr. Mehdi Sanaei is Associate Professor in the Department of Russian, Central Asia and Caucasian Studies at the University of Tehran, Iran. He is the author of numerous books and journal publications, including most recently: “Iran’s Eastern Policy: Potentials and Challenges”, with Jahangir Karami, in Russia in Global Affairs, 19(3) (2021) (link here); “Russia’s Constitutional Reforms of 2020: Continuation and Increase of Authoritarianism” in Central Asia and Caucasus Journal, 27(113) (2021); and “The World Order in the Post-Coronavirus Era” in Russia in Global Affairs, 18(2) (2020) (link here).
Beginning in 2015, he became a honorary member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In May 2021, Dr. Sanaei began serving as an associate member of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs with the Higher School of Economics (HSE), Moscow. The HSE has an active working partnership with the Centre.
Dr. Sanaei received his doctoral degree in political science from the Institute for Social and Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
