Mitigating the Health Effects of Natural Disasters in Remote Indigenous Communities: A One HEALtH Challenge

Please join us for a special PHACtually Speaking presentation entitled “Mitigating the Health Effects of Natural Disasters in Remote Indigenous Communities: A One HEALtH Challenge” on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 10:30am – 12pm Eastern Time.

A One HEALtH (Human Environment Animal Links to Health) approach to the health issues that face the planet today requires collaborations across multiple sectors and disciplines locally, nationally, and globally. One HEALtH works at the intersection of human and animal health, with the natural and built environments contributing to, and transforming this relationship. We will have two winning multidisciplinary teams from Carleton University’s 2018 One HEALtH Student Challenge, hosted by the Canadian Health Adaptations, Innovations, & Mobilization (CHAIM) Centre, present their “One HEALtH frameworks” for designing a plan to mitigate the physical and mental health risks, and facilitate community rebuilding following a natural disaster, with a particular focus on isolated First Nations communities in Canada’s northern regions. These plans take into consideration the necessary support systems, programs, and infrastructure to recover from a natural disaster (e.g., forest fires, floods).

This special seminar will take place from the Innovation Centre, located at 100 Colonnade Road in Ottawa, with WebEX linking the Dr. Francis A Plummer Theatre, at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health in Winnipeg and other regional locations across the country.

Pre-registration is required to participate in person in the Innovation Centre in Ottawa, and encouraged if you wish to join via WebEx.

We hope to see you there!
