Fourth-year students carry out an independent research study using library resources. The candidate will prepare a critical review and study proposal on a topic approved by a faculty supervisor. A written report and an oral poster presentation of the work are required before a grade can be assigned.

The study will take the form of a research proposal. After choosing a topic related to Food Science and Nutrition, the student shall write a critical review of the literature and analyze existing published data to highlight research trends. The student shall then propose and design an original research project based on the current status of the field. Please note that the research project is not actually carried out. Work associated with the Honours Essay and Research Proposal consists of a minimum of eight hours per week for two terms.
