Carleton University’s Chemistry Department will begin offering its popular high school visits program again in Fall 2022 where local grade 12 students participate in a chemistry class.
As part of the activities, students perform a first-year laboratory experiment (experiment outline) in the morning and collaborate on a case study activity in the afternoon.
The afternoon activity, Chemistry in Action: A Food Detective Case Study, will investigate a case where a person became severely ill after a single bite of their mother’s seasoned steak during a weekly family dinner. What was in their food? How did it get there? Who is to blame? Find out how chemistry, toxicology, and food science are used to solve the case.
Please contact the Chemistry Department via email to set up your class visit!
Every student must bring a signed consent form on the day of the visit, found here.
If you would like to book lunch and/or a campus tour, please contact Campus Tours via email, or visit the Campus Tours page.
