Specifically, I am interested in poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other fluorinated chemicals, whose biological fate remains poorly understood despite their broad use and persistence in the environment. \u00a0Integrating environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular toxicology, and microbiology, my research elucidates the enzymes and microorganisms responsible for contaminant transformation, the chemical products that are formed, and the biological consequences of these processes. Understanding when biological systems detoxify contaminants and when they generate more persistent or toxic products will improve our ability to predict environmental fate, assess human exposure, and develop science-based strategies for reducing chemical risk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":5499,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"cu_people_first_name":"Amy","cu_people_last_name":"Rand","cu_people_initials":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"cu_people_type":[4],"cu_people_expertise":[],"class_list":["post-2573","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-faculty"],"acf":{"cu_people_job_title":"Associate Professor","cu_people_degree":"Ph.D., University of Toronto, 2013","cu_building":"","cu_people_office_num":"","cu_people_pronoun":"","cu_people_designation":"","cu_people_email":"Amy.Rand@Carleton.ca","cu_people_phone":"","cu_people_phone_ext":"3635","cu_people_linkedin":"","cu_people_bluesky":"","cu_people_twitter":"","cu_people_instagram":"","cu_people_facebook":"","cu_people_website":"https:\/\/www.arandlab.ca\/","cu_people_orcid":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/2573","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/cu_people"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/2573\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6047,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/2573\/revisions\/6047"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/5499"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2573"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"cu_people_type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people_type?post=2573"},{"taxonomy":"cu_people_expertise","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people_expertise?post=2573"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
