The Institute combines the research strengths and resources of the Departments of Chemistry at both universities. Some of the shared research facilities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n    <div class=\"grid gap-6 mx-auto my-6 cu-column md:gap-10 md:grid-cols-2 md:my-10 first:mt-0\">\n        \n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a major mass spectrometry centre,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an X-ray spectrometer,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>several modern NMR spectrometers,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a pico-second laser facility,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an ultratrace analysis laboratory, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an electrochemical research centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the resources of many federal departments are available to our graduate students, including the National Research Council and its library, the National Science Library (CISTI), Health Canada, Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Agriculture Canada. The Institute offers the Master of Science (MSc) and PhD degrees in all areas of chemistry, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n    <div class=\"grid gap-6 mx-auto my-6 cu-column md:gap-10 md:grid-cols-2 md:my-10 first:mt-0\">\n        \n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>biochemistry,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>analytical chemistry,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>inorganic chemistry,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>organic chemistry,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>physical chemistry, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>theoretical chemistry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 30 new graduate students are admitted annually to either the <a title=\"Master\u2019s Program\" href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/prospective-students\/graduate\/masters-program\/\">master\u2019s<\/a> or <a title=\"PhD Program\" href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/chemistry\/prospective-students\/graduate\/phd-program\/\">doctoral<\/a> program. The Institute has nearly 40 faculty, each with their own research group. Students will be enrolled at the campus where an appropriate research supervisor is located. Several graduate students also conduct their research off campus under the supervision of one of the Institute\u2019s adjunct professors.
