The embassies of the Central American countries accredited in Canada: Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama, as well as Carleton University, are pleased to host “Central America’s Economic Recovery in a Post-Covid World & Canada’s Role.” This virtual event aims at exploring the impacts generated by Covid-19, the economic and commercial prospects of the Central American states, and Canada’s potential role in supporting the region’s economic recovery.

Central America, along with the rest of the world, has been affected by the economic and health crises derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. As contingency measures were adopted, important sectors of the region’s economies were impacted.

With the eminent task of recovering the flow of trade and the stability of national markets, the Central American states seek to begin the gradual opening of various key economic activities. This recovery will provide institutional strength to respond to the new challenges faced by vulnerable populations (women, children, the elderly, disabled people, indigenous peoples, and others) within a context of guaranteeing human and labour rights. This forum seeks to explore these issues and analyze the potential that Canada may have, as an observer member of SICA, in this process.
