The Mitacs Globalink Research Award program is an opportunity for faculty, postdocs, and students to develop and deepen international research collaborations through student research mobility. Mitacs provides funding for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to conduct short-term (12-24 weeks) research visits at or from institutions in eligible countries (see below) or through Mitacs partners. Carleton faculty members can build or strengthen international partnerships through the co-supervision of research projects for Carleton interns or visiting researchers. Faculty can submit one application for one project with mulitple interns. The interns can gain valuable international experience, build long-term career connections, and enrich the research at their home institution.
There are two ways to apply:

2. Carleton’s Open Call for travel to/from eligible countries
Carleton has partnered with Mitacs to offer opportunities for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to conduct research visits at or from institutions in the eligible countries listed below. This is an open call with no deadline but there are a limited number of awards available.
Carleton senior undergraduates, graduate students, and PDFs are invited to apply. Applicants must find a supervisor at their intended host institution and work closely with their Carleton supervisor on the application form.
Carleton faculty members looking to build or strengthen international partnerships are encouraged to apply to host an undergraduate, graduate student or PDF from abroad on a co-supervised research project. One application can be submitted for mulitple interns. If successful, recipients and hosts must follow procedures for visiting researchers.
International Applicants
Senior undergraduates, graduate students or PDFs from an eligible country are welcome to apply. Applicants must first find a faculty member at Carleton host them and supervise the research project during the research visit. If successful, GRA award recipients must follow procedures for visiting researchers.
To apply, for both outgoing or incoming awards, please first complete the Carleton Mitacs GRA Preliminary Form and send it by email to Sylvie Jasen, at mobility.programs@carleton.ca. Those selected will also need to also complete a Mitacs GRA application package for review and approval by Mitacs (the review takes approximately 2 months).
Submit the Preliminary Form to Carleton International for pre-selection by an internal Carleton committee. Results will be sent within 2 weeks of submission.
If successful in pre-selections, the applicant completes the full Mitacs application package (includes form with approvals, relevant CVs, support letters from supervisors, and a proposal). The package is submitted to Carleton International for preliminary review and sent to Mitacs for final review and approval. The Mitacs review will take 2-3 months.
If approved by Mitacs, the award recipient completes Code of Conduct and Ethics and Pre-departure forms to be submitted to Mitacs. Once received, Mitacs issues the Notice of Award (NOA) to Carleton (with copies to the recipient and both host and home supervisors). The award recipient has one year to travel from the date of the NOA.
Carleton disburses payments for both inbound and outbound awards.
For Carleton students and PDFs, the funds will be administered by their home supervisor. To facilitate payment, the supervisor must submit an approval form in cuResearch. For international visiting researchers, the funds will be administered by Carleton International upon arrival. The university will issue a cheque and the international award recipient must open a Canadian bank account.
