International Budgeting<\/h3>\n

Direct and indirect costs of\u00a0Research<\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/h4>\n

I need a budget template to reflect multiple partners over multiple years?<\/p>\n

Use this budget template if you have a multi-year international project that involves sub-agreements to multiple\u00a0<\/span><\/span>institutions. Consortium Template Consolidated budget-CI website<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

I require a teaching release — where do I get approval?<\/p>\n

Discuss with your Departmental chair\/director and Associate Dean of Research and International\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(ADRI) giving a heads-up that you will be applying for a teaching release, they need to approve this, and it has\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to be budgeted in your project. When completing the CU Authorisation list you must add the teaching release\u00a0<\/span><\/span>into the request for approval. The cost of a teaching release can be confirmed with the chair and ADRI. Space,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>as above, complete the CU Research\u00a0<\/span><\/span>https:\/\/carleton.ca\/coris\/funding-process\/curesearch\/<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00b7 Most proposals\u00a0<\/span><\/span>need to have an institutional legal signatory sign-off on it, the policy<\/a> and the commitment letter, <\/span><\/span>signed by the University\u2019s authorized signatory, for international.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Indirect cost:<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

How and why do I include the indirect cost of research\/overhead in my budget?<\/p>\n

Calculating Indirect costs of Research: Carleton\u2019s policy<\/a> and distribution formula (you get some back!)Remember we do not\u00a0<\/span>have a NICRA (negotiated indirect cost of research administration, basically an audit from the US Federal system)\u00a0<\/span>and so if you are getting a sub-award from a US university, and or are applying directly for Federal funding, we have <\/span>to default to 10%. However, if you are budgeting for a foundation, then we go with the foundation rules, some might\u00a0<\/span>restrict you to 15%, others 20% and if they are prepared to go higher, all the more for your effort. Please note that if\u00a0<\/span>the indirect cost is \u201cinclusive\u201d in the total then please use the following formula:<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n
