Funded by Government of Canada, the project offers 4 to 5 awards to faculty members per application cycle (2026-27 and 2027-28). Each award is valued at $10,000 CAD in seed funding to support travel and other expenses related to starting a research project with a partner in an eligible country.<\/p>\n<p>Applications must demonstrate a commitment and potential for long-term engagement and collaboration, whether through ongoing research activities, teaching practices, agreements, future mobilities, or other plans. Awardees are expected to use some of the funds for travel to the partner institution, and the rest for costs that contribute to advancing joint research. The proposed research activities and outcomes must align with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/transparency-transparence\/indo-pacific-indo-pacifique\/index.aspx?lang=eng#a3\">Strategic Objectives of Canada\u2019s Indo-Pacific Strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Applicant Eligibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The program is open to full-time faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate, of Full Professor. Please note that only Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Partner Eligibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>PIs can propose partners at any institution in an eligible country in the Indo-Pacific region. Countries that are not eligible include People\u2019s Republic of China, the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea, and Myanmar. Applications to visit partners in countries under travel advisories issued by the Government of Canada will also not be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Project partners must be full-time employees at the partner organization. All legally incorporated organizations as per their country\u2019s regulations are eligible partners, including post-secondary institutions, public and private entities, as well as not-for-profits.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Term<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Awards are tenable for a period of one year. Awardees must complete planned activities, including travel to the partner, within the term of the award. The research projects that are initiated through this seed funding are expected to continue beyond the one-year term. Award recipients must provide a report at the end of the award, outlining the completed activities and outcomes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Value of Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Each award is valued at $10,000 CAD. A portion of the funding must be used by the PI to travel to the partner institution. The remainder can cover other costs of the project. A list of eligible expenses is provided on the application form. No funds can be transferred to a partner.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The following documents are required for a complete application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed Application Form<\/li>\n<li>Short CVs (max 6 pages) for both the PI and the partner<\/li>\n<li>Letter of Support from the partner.\n<ul>\n<li>Letters must confirm the partner\u2019s commitment to the project and long-term partnership as well as outline the benefits of the collaboration to their institution. The letter must be on institutional letterhead and can be signed either by the co-investigator or a higher-ranking role at the institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All documents should be combined into a single PDF and saved with the following file name: Last Name_First Name_SCIPP2026 and submitted through cuResearch.
