All projects require a sound environmental impact assessment, the consideration of social and gender issues, and an applicability to smallholder farmers. The projects should address real practical development challenges and research needs of the 10 developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>The fund will focus on issues under four key research areas aligned to regional priorities as stated in the Malabo declaration:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Improved productivity and incomes for farmers and communities and decreased post-harvest losses;<\/li>\n<li>Improved gender equity;<\/li>\n<li>Nutrition and human health; and<\/li>\n<li>Climate change and sustainable water management.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Of special interest is supporting innovative research with the potential for breakthrough results that can be effectively scaled-up and easily adopted by smallholder farmers, food processors, post-harvest handlers, and other value chain actors to improve food and nutrition security and achieve gender equality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>This call is open to applicant organizations that will work in partnership with others to carry out research in one (or more) of the eligible countries:<\/p>\n<div id=\"main-content\" class=\"main slide\" role=\"main\">\n<div class=\"region region-content\">\n<div class=\"block block-system\">\n<article class=\"with-social-icon\" role=\"article\">\n<div class=\"panels-middle\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"view view-grant-body view-id-grant_body view-display-id-panel_pane_1 view-dom-id-6c22c32b9fd9d1288468dd7f78d885e4\">\n<div class=\"views-row views-row-1 views-row-odd views-row-first views-row-last\">\n<div class=\"field-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Burundi;<\/li>\n<li>Ethiopia;<\/li>\n<li>Kenya;<\/li>\n<li>Malawi;<\/li>\n<li>Mozambique;<\/li>\n<li>Rwanda;<\/li>\n<li>Tanzania;<\/li>\n<li>Uganda;<\/li>\n<li>Zambia;\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>Zimbabwe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicant organizations must be developing country organizations (national agricultural research systems, universities, government departments, NGOs, regional organizations, and Southern-led international organizations) with legal corporate registration in an eligible country. They may work in partnership with Canadian or Australian organizations, but this is not a requirement. If working in partnership, please consider the extra time needed to apply collaboratively.<\/p>\n<p>United Nations organizations, Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research centres, and Canadian and Australian organizations shall not apply to this fund as applicant organizations. They may, however, be included in applications by other research teams as <i>third-party organizations.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Funding Available<\/h3>\n<div class=\"page\">\n<div id=\"main-content\" class=\"main slide\" role=\"main\">\n<div class=\"region region-content\">\n<div class=\"block block-system\">\n<article class=\"with-social-icon\" role=\"article\">\n<div class=\"panels-middle\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"view view-grant-body view-id-grant_body view-display-id-panel_pane_1 view-dom-id-6c22c32b9fd9d1288468dd7f78d885e4\">\n<div class=\"views-row views-row-1 views-row-odd views-row-first views-row-last\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"field-content\">\n<p>Project budgets under this call must be in the range of CA$1 million to CA$3 million (please see the instructions document for more detail on budgets).<\/p>\n<p>Project duration must not exceed 42 months, including all research activities and final reporting. It is anticipated that projects selected in this call will begin in January, 2019. Please plan activities accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Concept notes must demonstrate that research will have clear impact pathways and be user driven, with potential research-users identified and engaged in project development and implementation. Potential research-users include a wide variety of private sector and non-academic entities (e.g., large and small businesses, producer groups, business associations, country governments, international organizations, private foundations and institutes, non-governmental organizations, and scientific professional bodies, etc.), all of whom can adopt, adapt, and bring to scale the research results or innovations.<\/p>\n<p>All projects must be environmentally sustainable and must include economic, social, and gender considerations.
