University Francisco de Vitoria and the Joseph Ratzinger\/Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation have partnered to announce the Expanded Reason Awards, which aim to recognize and promote academic innovations in the spirit of Benedict XVI\u2019s proposal to broaden the horizons of reason.<\/p>\n

Keeping this appreciation of the human desire for the whole of truth alive requires an integrated approach to research and teaching in the sciences, one that recovers the fundamental existential questions which emerge within the context of the particular disciplines and through reflection on the scientific enterprise in general. The University Francisco de Vitoria and the Vatican Foundation Joseph Ratzinger\/Benedict XVI present \u2018The Expanded Reason Awards, II Edition\u2019. The aim of these Awards is to recognize researchers and university professors who, following the thought of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, include the idea of \u2018Expanded Reason\u2019 in their teaching or research. This concept refers to the way in which experts in a specific science are able to open the horizon of their fields to understand the human person in its totality, being enlightened by philosophy and\/or theology and avoiding the use of empty empiricism or scientism that may not consider human reality beyond a narrow area of knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Eligibility<\/h3>\n

The projects submitted must engage in reflection about Anthropology, Epistemology, Ethics and Meaning questions, within a particular science in Research or Teaching.<\/p>\n

To be eligible, university professors and researchers must accomplish the purpose of the awards individually or in a group.<\/p>\n
