{"id":17582,"date":"2019-01-02T20:30:58","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T01:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/coris\/2018\/national-research-foundation-the-or-tambo-africa-research-chairs-initiative\/"},"modified":"2019-04-28T21:29:27","modified_gmt":"2019-04-29T01:29:27","slug":"national-research-foundation-the-or-tambo-africa-research-chairs-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ci\/2019\/national-research-foundation-the-or-tambo-africa-research-chairs-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"National Research Foundation: The OR Tambo Africa Research Chairs Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa in partnership with the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation, and supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, are pleased to announce the OR Tambo Africa Research Chairs Call for Expressions of Interest by African public research-intensive universities.<\/p>\n<h3>Opportunity<\/h3>\n<p>The OR Tambo Africa Research Chairs Initiative, named after Oliver Reginald Tambo, the pre-eminent South African leader and advocate of science and technology, will support up to 10 top researchers from across Africa over the next five years.The Initiative has been designed to honour a leading figure in the development of African unity; to make an important impact on the development of research infrastructure in recipient countries; and to contribute to knowledge production and high-end skills in alignment with the African Union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/au.int\/en\/agenda2063\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agenda 2063<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/au.int\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/29957-doc-stisa-published_book.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa<\/a>.Through international and regional strategic partnerships, the Chairs will contribute to the development of long term mutually beneficial research collaborations on the continent.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>It is the intention to establish an <strong>initial ten (10) OR Tambo Africa Research Chairs<\/strong>, restricted to 15 countries in the rest of the continent: <strong>Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal, Ghana, Cote d\u2019Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, and Botswana<\/strong>, focused on research priorities <em>(refer to framework and application guideline)<\/em> identified by each host institution in conjunction with the <a href=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/en-za\">Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) in sub-Saharan Africa<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/arua.org.za\/about\/\">African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA)<\/a> countries in particular, and in alignment with AU Agenda 2063 and STISA 2024.
