Mitacs has launched a special call for applications for student projects on themes of contemporary importance, to be carried out with an institutional partner abroad.\u00a0 This initiative is open to Carleton senior undergraduates, graduate students, or postdoctoral fellows<\/strong> as well as senior undergraduates, graduate students, or postdoctoral fellows from eligible institutions<\/strong> who wish to conduct projects at Carleton University.\u00a0 Projects should be developed with the host supervisor and must fit within one of the themes and subcategories listed below.\u00a0 It is the responsibility of participants to connect with one another.<\/p>\n

Carleton faculty members<\/strong> who are conducting research in the specified fields and have existing or potential collaborations with partners at eligible institutions are also encouraged to submit applications for groups of students (up to five) for a single project.<\/p>\n

Duration and Value<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The award provides CAD$6,000 to cover travel and accommodations or research expenses.\u00a0 The research trips must be between 12 and 24 weeks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Travel Restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Please note that travel restrictions remain in place due to COVID-19 and Carleton University has suspended its visiting researcher program as well as restricted research-related travel for its members. Currently, the university is not accepting visiting researchers to campus and not allowing students to travel for research internships.\u00a0 Although the Mitacs GRA call is open and students may apply for the awards, and be accepted, no travel can take place until restrictions are lifted.\u00a0 As a result, for successful award recipients, all travel will be on hold until further notice.\u00a0 Carleton International will not issue letters of invitation (for visa purposes) for inbound students or conduct predeparture orientations for outbound students at this time.\u00a0 All award recipients will be notified immediately once these procedures are resumed and preparations for travel can be made.<\/p>\n

Please note that research projects selected through this call for applications (decisions are expected in February 2021) will have up to a year to begin (until February 2022), once circumstances allow.<\/p>\n
