{"id":86,"date":"2015-08-05T14:15:28","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T14:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cjdml\/?post_type=cu-people&#038;p=86"},"modified":"2020-12-12T11:45:44","modified_gmt":"2020-12-12T16:45:44","slug":"ralph-serin","status":"publish","type":"cu-people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cjdml\/people\/ralph-serin\/","title":{"rendered":"Ralph Serin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Biography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Serin received his Ph.D. from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queensu.ca\">Queen\u2019s University<\/a> in 1988 and has been registered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cpo.on.ca\">Ontario College of Psychologists<\/a> since 1990. From 1975 to 2003 he was employed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csc-scc.gc.ca\/index-en.shtml\">Correctional Service of Canada<\/a> in various capacities. Most recently he was the Director, Operations and Programs Research with the Research Branch. In July 2003 he accepted a faculty position at <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\">Carleton University<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/\">Department of Psychology<\/a> where he is now a Professor teaching forensic and correctional psychology courses. He has published in the areas of crime desistance, parole, treatment readiness and responsivity, risk assessment, psychopathy, sexual offenders, and the assessment and treatment of violent offenders.Since 1991 he has been a psychological consultant to the Ministry of Correctional Services at Brockville Jail. Since 2003 he has provided consultation services to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/parole-board.html\">National Parole Board of Canada<\/a> regarding training and evaluation in the area of release decision making; Correctional Service of Canada regarding case management decision-making and correctional programming; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/\">Department of Justice of Canada<\/a>; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nicic.gov\">National Institute of Corrections<\/a> regarding parole and evidence-based practice, and the Departments of Corrections in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.bm\/department\/corrections\">Bermuda<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csd.gov.hk\/english\/home\/home.html\">Hong Kong<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corrections.govt.nz\">New Zealand<\/a> regarding violent offenders, dynamic risk assessment and offender change, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/tribunalsontario.ca\/opb\/\">Ontario Parole and Earned Remission Board<\/a> regarding risk assessment and parole decision-making.<\/p>\n<h4>Research Interests<\/h4>\n<p>I am interested in the interface between psychology and criminal justice and my research interests focus on decision making and correctional programming.\u00a0 The former considers correctional and parole decision-making, with an emphasis on models to improve standardization and research regarding accuracy.\u00a0 The latter work encompasses assessment of treatment readiness and treatment needs; measurement of programming gains; and pathways to desistance; all with a view to understanding differential outcomes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":{"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"people-type":[8],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.2 -
