From 5-7 PM LOCAL time on that date,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mx.technolutions.net\/mps2\/c\/1gA\/jM0HAA\/t.2y3\/e_u-58-3T96sXS8z5C-p-A\/h0\/NpNs7qsc1BJnRpSalbRkfbpbKVHhWmBfqeQM23zrktU-3D\/sFSS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mx.technolutions.net\/mps2\/c\/1gA\/jM0HAA\/t.2y3\/e_u-58-3T96sXS8z5C-p-A\/h0\/NpNs7qsc1BJnRpSalbRkfbpbKVHhWmBfqeQM23zrktU-3D\/sFSS&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1579027366488000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGqXL9KnkZPnj7PdlZMpSnwt_mfOQ\">The Center for Environmental Policy<\/a>\u00a0at Bard College is organizing a national event,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mx.technolutions.net\/mps2\/c\/1gA\/jM0HAA\/t.2y3\/e_u-58-3T96sXS8z5C-p-A\/h1\/LL-2BJ9HmEymDmsNJ7E-2BHtQfO-2FvTdM98G-2BXE-2BlbPYW3PXgti1gnHrmsgZNl8-2BCpSuL\/yRod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mx.technolutions.net\/mps2\/c\/1gA\/jM0HAA\/t.2y3\/e_u-58-3T96sXS8z5C-p-A\/h1\/LL-2BJ9HmEymDmsNJ7E-2BHtQfO-2FvTdM98G-2BXE-2BlbPYW3PXgti1gnHrmsgZNl8-2BCpSuL\/yRod&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1579027366488000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGqWMgUfQXjSPd-LWZnkjFGgywGRw\">Solve Climate By 2030<\/a>, that seeks to engage more than 100,000 students across the country in dialog about state and local climate solutions. It will feature an hour-long webinar hosted by a\u00a0<i>university in each state<\/i>\u00a0with climate experts talking about three ambitious but feasible things that need to happen\u00a0<i>in your state\u00a0<\/i>soon if we are to get on track to solve climate by 2030. (See the list of university partners below) Recommendations will vary from state to state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>\n<p>This is not just an opportunity for environmental studies professors. Across the curriculum, faculty at colleges, universities and high schools should assign viewing of the webinars live or recorded as homework, and then spend the next class discussing climate solutions.\u00a0 The challenges posed by solving climate change necessarily range across history, science, business, culture, economics, psychology, religion, government, media, journalism and the arts. The Solve Climate By 2030 website will offer disciplinary entry points for follow-up discussion to the state-level, solutions-focused webinars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There are many disciplinary entry points across the curriculum:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Philosophers and Religion Professors<\/u>:\u00a0 are we called to civic action in life, and around climate action at this moment?<\/li>\n<li><u>Economists<\/u>:\u00a0 how would you think about the proposals from a benefit-cost perspective?<\/li>\n<li><u>Political Scientists and Sociologists:<\/u> what are the opportunities and challenges facing political change driven by citizen action?<\/li>\n<li><u>Business Professors:<\/u>\u00a0 is there a case for private sector leadership in the proposals?<\/li>\n<li><u>Art Professors:<\/u> can art inspire activism around these proposals?<\/li>\n<li><u>Scientists:<\/u>\u00a0 dig into the chemistry, physics, biology or engineering of the proposals.<\/li>\n<li><u>Psychologists:<\/u>\u00a0 fear of climate change, denial and its relation to activism.<\/li>\n<li><u>Mathematicians:<\/u>\u00a0 innovation and technology diffusion curves.<\/li>\n<li><u>Literature and Communication Professors:<\/u>\u00a0 how do we think about the prevalence of apocalyptic vision in film and literature?<\/li>\n<li><u>Language Professors:<\/u> what is happening internationally on climate solutions?<\/li>\n<li><u>Music Professors:<\/u>\u00a0why is there no good climate change song?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>We will also provide professors with a template for an hour-long, interactive discussion for\u00a0<i>students as citizens<\/i>\u00a0about the three state-specific proposals to take place that evening or the next day or two in class.\u00a0 Having heard these recommendations, do the students feel responsible to take action? If not, why not? If so, why, and what sort of action?\u00a0 Engaging this discussion does not require any expertise on the part of professors regarding climate policy, science or solutions: rather, it can be a discussion focused on the nature of civic responsibility.Time is short. The world\u2019s top climate scientists told us a year ago that we have ten years\u2014until 2020\u2014to hold global warming to the low end.
