And how does it shape the way we tackle climate change?<\/p>\n<p>Join us for a conversation with\u00a0Astra Taylor, Barbara Leckie, Candis Callison, and Joel Westheimer as we unpack what actually \u201cmakes sense,\u201d the values that shape our understanding of common sense, and how we can redefine it for a more just and sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re also launching our new podcast\u00a0<em>Commons Sense: the Commons, Climate Change, and Public Conversation<\/em>\u00a0(co-created by Barbara Leckie and Joel Westheimer and produced by former CBC producer Mary Stinson).\u00a0<em>Commons Sense\u00a0<\/em>is a six-part series with accompanying curriculum bringing together humanities and social science research on common sense, communication, and the commons, featuring insights from experts in a\u00a0range of\u00a0fields.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that this webinar will be conducted in English. She is the director of numerous documentaries and her books include\u00a0<em>The Age of Insecurity: Coming Together as Things Fall Apart, Democracy May Not Exist But We\u2019ll Miss It When It\u2019s Gone<\/em>, and the American Book Award winner\u00a0<em>The People\u2019s Platform: Taking Back Power and Culture in the Digital Age<\/em>. Her most recent book is\u00a0<em>Solidarity: The Past, Present, and Future of a World-Changing Idea<\/em>, co-written with Leah Hunt-Hendrix. Astra\u00a0was the 2023 CBC Massey Lecture and she cofounded the Debt Collective, a union of debtors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barbara Leckie | Re.Climate Academic Director |\u00a0Professor in the Department of English and the Institute for the Comparative Study of Literature, Art, and Culture at Carleton University<\/strong><br \/>\nBarbara\u2019s<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>current work focuses on collective action and climate narratives, rhetorics, and images from the 19th-century through today. Her most recent book is\u00a0<em>Climate Change, Interrupted: Representation and the Remaking of Time<\/em>\u00a0and her recent articles address co-writing, climate, and collectivity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candis Callison<\/strong>\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Canada Research Chair | Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and the Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies<\/strong><br \/>\nCandis is appointed as the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous journalism, media, and public discourse. She is the author of\u00a0<em>How Climate Change Comes to Matter: The Communal Life of Facts<\/em>\u00a0and the co-author of\u00a0<em>Reckoning: Journalism\u2019s Limits and Possibilities.\u00a0<\/em>Candis is currently working on a long term research project about the role of journalism and media in Arctic and northern regions. She is a member of the T\u0101\u0142t\u0101n Nation and a regular contributor to the podcast,\u00a0<em>Media Indigena<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joel Westheimer |\u00a0Professor of Democracy and Education at the University of Ottawa |\u00a0Education columnist for CBC Radio<\/strong><br \/>\nJoel\u00a0is an expert in civic education and the role of schools in democratic societies. His most recent book\u00a0is\u00a0<em>What kind of citizen? Educating our children for the common good<\/em>.
