Climate Commons invites you to a special follow\u2011up event to the Sunday screening of\u00a0Earth\u2019s Greatest Enemy<\/i>, the new documentary by Abby Martin, U.S. journalist and host of The Empire Files, that exposes the massive climate and environmental impacts of the American war machine. The screening is being held in recognition of the International Day of Peace, the\u00a0Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0#1000Women<\/a> campaign for #CareNotWarfare, organized by VOW, WILPF\u2011Canada, the Raging Grannies Ottawa, and Carleton PIRG. See information below for more details.<\/p>\n

The following evening, we\u2019ll gather for an open, community\u2011based discussion to continue unpacking the issues raised in the film. We\u2019re thrilled to be joined by\u00a0Tamara Lorincz<\/b>, who will offer a short presentation on the Canadian military\u2019s climate emissions and environmental footprint, military base contamination, and rise of military spending, providing essential context as Canada moves to \u201crebuild, re\u2011arm and re\u2011invest in the Canadian Armed Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

This event is hosted by the\u00a0War & Climate Reading Group<\/b> and<\/strong>\u00a0Carleton PIRG <\/b>and is open to anyone interested in the intersections of militarism, climate change, peace activism, and environmental justice. Whether you attended the film screening or are simply curious, you\u2019re welcome to join.<\/p>\n

Speaker: Tamara Lorincz, PhD, Balsillie School for International Affairs at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her research is on the climate and environmental impacts of the military. The title of her dissertation is \u201cIn the Line of Fire: Military Emissions, the National Security Exemption and NATO Expansion in Climate Governance.\u201d Tamara has a Law degree and MBA specializing in environmental law and management from Dalhousie University. She\u2019s a former Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Environmental Network and co-founded the East Coast Environmental Law Association. She\u2019s a senior researcher with the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace and a member of the Women\u2019s International League for Peace and Freedom.
