As the worldwide debate around divestment from fossil fuels rages, thirty campuses across Canada are now home to divestment campaigns. Reactions have been diverse: Concordia University has created a\u00a0fossil-free fund<\/a>, while the University of Calgary has\u00a0ruled out<\/a>\u00a0divesting. Students and faculty have voted in favour of divesting at the\u00a0University of Victoria<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0UBC<\/a>. Internationally, Oxford University\u00a0and Stanford University have committed to divestment in one form or another. Yet the jury is still out as to its\u00a0effectiveness<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cI really question whether this does anything,\u201d said Kevin Milligan of UBC. However, his colleague David Green says it is important to \u201cestablish the social norm that we are moving to a carbon-free society.\u201d<\/p>\n
