Abstract

Come learn how to get what you need from human testing of HCI prototypes! Bring a prototype (your own or one you’ve encountered), and we’ll walk through the process in small groups: test goals (What can your prototype do or not do? What part of life is it aimed at, and who will use it? Do you need an exploratory test or do you have specific questions about error rates, usability, or task/context fit?), resource outlining (what access do you have to people, time, money, and space?), test planning (what do you need testers to do? How many times? With what differences?), and outcome anticipation (What potential results do you see, and what choices could you make in response to them?). We’ll also talk about how to adjust your testing to suit your prototype’s intended audience or users, level of fidelity, and likely difficulties you may encounter.
