{"id":268,"date":"2014-06-13T18:38:18","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T18:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cmi\/?page_id=268"},"modified":"2014-08-28T16:55:31","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T16:55:31","slug":"teacher-zone","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cmi\/teacher-zone\/","title":{"rendered":"Teacher Zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Early Childhood:<\/h3>\n<p>The Society for Research in Child Development recently published a Social Policy Report titled <a href=\"http:\/\/files.eric.ed.gov\/fulltext\/ED521700.pdf\">Mathematics Education for Young Children: What it Is and How to Promote It.<\/a> This report provides insight into understanding and improving mathematics education for three to five year olds.<\/p>\n<h3>French Immersion:<\/h3>\n<p>If you teach with an Accent Mathematique textbook, you probably know that these texts are a translation of the Nelson Mathematics K-8 series. There are online resources for teachers on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nelson.com\/nelson\/school\/elementary\/mathK8\/default.html\">Thomson Nelson site<\/a>. The resources match each unit in the text. There are also Canadian resources for teachers of grades 4-6 in French on the <a href=\"http:\/\/cemc2.math.uwaterloo.ca\/mathfrog\/main.shtml\">MathFrog<\/a> site.<\/p>\n<h3>Canadian Measurement and Topics:<\/h3>\n<p>The math department at the University of Waterloo provides teacher resources for grades 4-6 on it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/cemc2.math.uwaterloo.ca\/mathfrog\/main.shtml\">MathFrog<\/a> site. The department of Mathematics at Western University also sponsors a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.uwo.ca\/index.php?cID=\">Teachers Resources site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Ontario Teachers:<\/h3>\n<p>The Ottawa Carleton School Board has set up an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocdsb.ca\/sta\/teacher_resources\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Teacher Resources<\/a> site with web links matched to the Ontario Elementary Mathematics curriculum units. Ontario teachers, with the support of Anne LeSage, have also developed <a href=\"http:\/\/education.uoit.ca\/words2numbers\/\">Words 2 Numbers<\/a> , a database that includes mathematic lessons supported by literacy for children from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Words 2 Numbers also has a comprehensive list of <a href=\"http:\/\/education.uoit.ca\/words2numbers\/index.php?action=booklists\">1000 books<\/a> to use to integrate math and literature.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/education.uoit.ca\/words2numbers\/\">Manitoba Teachers:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edu.gov.mb.ca\/k12\/cur\/math\/mathres.html\">The Manitoba Education site<\/a> provides teacher resources in MS Word and PDF format.<\/p>\n<h3>All Teachers:<\/h3>\n<p>Information on facilitating children&#8217;s numeracy development can be found at the <a href=\"http:\/\/eyeonkids.ca\/docs\/files\/foundations_for_numeracy.pdf\">Foundations for Numeracy site. <\/a>This evidence-based toolkit may be helpful in designed materials to support children&#8217;s numeracy development.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__three\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-300\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cmi\/wp-content\/uploads\/winnipeg.png\" alt=\"The University of Winnipeg\" width=\"182\" height=\"54\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns__three\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-299\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cmi\/wp-content\/uploads\/trent.png\" alt=\"Trent University\" width=\"182\" height=\"54\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns__three\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-298 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cmi\/wp-content\/uploads\/alberta.png\" alt=\"University of Alberta\" width=\"182\" height=\"54\" \/><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Early Childhood: The Society for Research in Child Development recently published a Social Policy Report titled Mathematics Education for Young Children: What it Is and How to Promote It.
