It allows all users to navigate across your website and easily find important information.<\/p>\n<p>Some things to remember:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An easy-to-follow menu is key for helping visitors find the information they need.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need to add every page to the menu. Having too many menu items can be overwhelming.<\/li>\n<li>Creating an outline or plan for your menu structure is a good approach. This video is about site navigation menus.<\/p>\n<p>Having a menu is important because it allows all users to navigate across your website and easily find important information.<\/p>\n<p>To set up your menu, from the back end of your site, hover over \u201cAppearance\u201d and select \u201cMenus\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Here you will see your website\u2019s menu structure. On the left side of the screen, you will see options for content you can add to the menu. We are only concerned with \u201cPages\u201d here.<\/p>\n<p>Check off the pages you want to add to the menu. You can find your pages by looking under \u201cMost Recent\u201d or \u201cView All\u201d, or browsing using \u201cSearch\u201d. Here, I will add a few to my menu. Once I\u2019m done selecting, I will click \u201cAdd to Menu\u201d. The items that I just added will appear at the bottom of the list.<\/p>\n<p>To move an item up and down the list, simply drag and drop. You can also make one item the child of another item by dragging it to the right.<\/p>\n<p>To remove an item from the navigation, click the arrow beside, and select \u201cRemove\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re done, don\u2019t forget to \u201cSave Menu\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<h2>Try It Out!<\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have learned how to set up your site navigation, time to try it out!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a navigation menu for your site.<\/li>\n<li>Change the order of your items.<\/li>\n<li>Change the hierarchy of your menu so that it has at least 1 main menu item, 1 second level item and 1 third level item.<\/li>\n<li>Delete an item from your menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<div class=\"u-center-text\">\n\t<p>\n\t\t<a class=\"button__red button__red--solid\" href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cms-help\/basic-training\/module-4-organizing-your-site\/footer\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Next: Footer<\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The navigation menu is an essential element of your site.
