We call it a fractional co-op (more details below).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>To learn more, including how to participate in next summer\u2019s test, please contact<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bill Ranson<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"mailto:bill.ranson@carleton.ca\">bill.ranson@carleton.ca<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">613-415-5751<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"rationale\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rationale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fractional co-op addresses two of the more common challenges employers face relative to hiring co-ops: not enough work and not enough budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"concept\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concept<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students work on projects across different companies for specific time periods (rather than one full 16-week placement) to allow for cost sharing of skilled labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"work-term-structure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Work term structure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work term must be 12-16 weeks, paid at least minimum wage, fulltime (35 hours\/ week), and related to the student\u2019s program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One employer would be the Employer of Record (EOR) and pays the student\u2019s salary for the duration of<br>the entire work term. This employer would also be responsible for applying for funding on the group\u2019s behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible work plan (which employers\/which weeks) should be agreed upon before the start date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student has one main contact within the EOR throughout the work term. Considerations should be given to both technical and professional guidance throughout the work term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"required-collaboration-among-employers\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Collaboration among Employers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Alignment on work plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job description creation and recruitment process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanism to transfer salary money to the EOR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applications and distribution for funding and tax credits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of the student\u2019s mid-term and end of term evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reviewing the student\u2019s work term report (due near the end of their term)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carleton\u2019s Co-op team is looking to partner with companies interested in testing a new, flexible way to work with our co-op students.
