Shumaila Hemani serves the CFICE project and CCEC as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) and is studying public and private funding policies for community-campus engagement across Canada, UK and Australia. She is being supervised in this work by Dr David Peacock, Director of Community Service-Learning at the University of Alberta.<\/p>\n
Shumaila is a Ph.D. Candidate (ABD) in Ethnomusicology at the UAlberta’s Music Department and studies and performs Islamic Sufi music of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Hindustani Khayalfrom Sind, Pakistan. She completed her M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta with a thesis about Pakistan\u2019s cultural policy to support performing arts. She is a recipient of the Cultural Diversity Award (2015) from Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) and State of Kuwait Award in Islamic Studies (2015) and has presented her research on the music of Pakistan at many international conferences in North America and abroad.<\/p>\n
