These projects focused on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Increasing<\/strong> community <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/cu-glossary\/environmental-sustainability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">environmental sustainability<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Reducing<\/strong> individual and collective ecological footprints, (i.e., human impact on the environment)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengthening<\/strong> a community\u2019s ability to deal with environmental changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Resilience-Graphic.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6983\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Resilience-Graphic-240x115.png\" alt=\"Text box with the following content: &quot;Definition of RESILIENCE: Even through changes in the environment, a household is able to keep a certain level of well-being, and access to food.&quot;\" width=\"240\" height=\"115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Resilience-Graphic-240x115.png 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Resilience-Graphic-160x77.png 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Resilience-Graphic.png 296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>The CES hub worked from the position that community environmental sustainability needs local action at the city level because it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leads to a greater ability to withstand changes in the environment (i.e. resilience)<\/li>\n<li>Reduces individual and collective ecological footprints (i.e. human impact on the environment)<\/li>\n<li>Mitigates climate change locally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the course of Phase I, the hub collected a lot of lessons with respect to <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/cu-glossary\/community-campus-engagement-cce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">community-campus engagement<\/a> in the environmental sustainability sector.
