\"PortraitThe Violence Against Women (VAW) Hub<\/a> and Community First: Impacts of Community Engagement (CFICE) want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Kim Pate<\/a> on her appointment by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to the Senate.<\/p>\n

Kim is the Executive Director for Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies<\/a> and has held this position since 1992. Her legal careers spans over 30 years working with youth, men and women in the legal system.<\/p>\n

Kim is a human rights expert and a prisoner advocate, who works tirelessly to improve the lives of women in prison. On June 30, 2014, Kim was appointed a member of the Order of Canada<\/a> for \u201cadvocating on behalf of women who are marginalized, victimized or incarcerated, and for her research on women in the criminal justice system\u201d.<\/p>\n

Kim has been involved in the work on Community-Campus Partnerships as the community co-lead of the VAW hub of CFICE since 2012. Dr. Diana Majury<\/a>, the Academic Co-Lead for the VAW hub writes, \u201cI\u2019m very proud of her and think it is wonderful for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"PlayKim is firmly rooted in the community as a social justice advocate but she also has extensive experience in academia and a huge respect for the importance of community based research. She will be a strong promoter of the goals and values that underpin the work of\u00a0 CFICE in her new position as a Canadian Senator.<\/p>\n
