Dr. Charles Levkoe has been named as a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Food Systems.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Community First: Impacts of Community Engagement (CFICE) project extends a hearty congratulations to Dr. Charles Levkoe, who was named as the new Tier II Canada Research Chair\u00a0in Sustainable Food Systems at Lakehead University. The appointment was announced by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, on December 2, 2016.<\/p>\n

In this role, Dr. Levkoe\u00a0will look at\u00a0how community practitioners and academics\u00a0can work together to build sustainable food systems–particularly ones that address social, economic and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n

This new position aligns well with Dr. Levkoe’s\u00a0work in\u00a0the CFICE project. Dr. Levkoe started his involvement with CFICE in Phase I<\/a>\u00a0as the Academic Co-lead of the Community Food Security hub<\/a>. In this role,\u00a0he worked with community partners to fund and facilitate demonstration projects<\/a> that addressed\u00a0various\u00a0food security and food sovereignty issues.<\/p>\n

He continues his involvement in Phase II<\/a> as the Academic Co-lead of the Food Sovereignty Table, which is part of the Community-Campus Engagement Brokering Working Group<\/a>. Through this table, Dr. Levkoe and his colleagues aim to strengthen relationships between academics and community-based practitioners doing work on national food policy issues through a food sovereignty lens.<\/p>\n
