This is partly because on-the-ground projects leading to community change often receive funding from many sources, including private donors, industry partners, foundations, and various levels of government. The project submitted by FSC, in collaboration with Amanda and supervising Lakehead University professor Charles Levkoe, was titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mitacs.ca\/en\/projects\/within-our-reach-building-community-academic-partnerships-support-national-food-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Within Our Reach: Building Community Academic Partnerships in support of a National Food Policy<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4392\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 240px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4392 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB-240x219.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait of Amanda Wilson, Community co-lead of the CCE Brokering Food Sovereignty Working Group.\" width=\"240\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB-240x219.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB-160x146.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB-360x328.jpg 360w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/wp-content\/uploads\/Amanda-head-shot_THUMB.jpg 375w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amanda Wilson worked as a post-doctoral student for Food Secure Canada.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur goal with this project was to increase the capacity of community and academic partners to contribute to a national food policy process,\u201d explains Amanda. \u201cWe wanted to experiment with different ways of collaborating and sharing resources for policy impact, all with the goal of pushing for more just, healthy and sustainable food policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through the project, Amanda has been able to take the lead on developing policy briefs (notably FSC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/foodsecurecanada.org\/patchwork-policy-coherence-principles-and-priorities-canadas-national-food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Discussion Paper on National Food Policy<\/em><\/a> and their <a href=\"https:\/\/foodsecurecanada.org\/sites\/foodsecurecanada.org\/files\/attached_files\/policy_brief_a_food_policy_for_canada_sept_28_by_fsc.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Final Recommendations on A Food Policy for Canada<\/em><\/a>) and engaging with FSC members and academic partners to generate and refine policy recommendations. This included outreach to academic allies of FSC, as well as targeted engagement around New Farmers and Northern Food.<\/p>\n<p>FSC has a long history of community-academic collaboration. A partner in CFICE since the beginning of <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/communityfirst\/sector-specific-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phase I<\/a>, FSC creates space and opportunities for academics, non-profits, and community organizations to work together on research and advocacy for a just and sustainable food system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom day one, working with Food Secure Canada has been a bit of a whirlwind,\u201d recalls Amanda. I\u2019ve been involved in so many different events and processes.
