HSK is China’s national standardized test of Chinese language proficiency to assess the non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.

The HSK Test was launched by Hanban and is the result of coordinated efforts by Chinese and international scholars and researchers from different disciplines including Chinese language teaching, linguistics, psychology and educational measurement. The HSK Test has 6 levels (HSK Level I-VI)

Chinese proficiency certificate is issued in accordance with HSK scores and often recognized as a reference standard used by Chinese businesses, organizations in recruiting non-native Chinese speakers for jobs where certain level of the Chinese language proficiency is required. HSK scores are also the evidence of the Chinese language skills of the international students applying for Chinese university scholarships.

HSK tests are held regularly each year in China and at the international test centres.  The Confucius Institute at Carleton University is the only authorized HSK Test Centre in Ottawa.
