Confucius Institute at Carleton University offers the “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to support students to study Chinese language and culture at the universities in China.

Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
This category provides a sponsorship for 11 months starting on September 2017. Applicant should have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3).
Scholarship for One-Semester Study
This category provides a sponsorship for 5 months starting on September 2017 or March 2018. Applicant should have no prior experience of studying in China, but have a minimum score of 120 in HSK Test (Level 2).
Scholarship for Four-Week Study
This category provides a sponsorship for 4-week study starting July 2017 or December 2017. Applicant should submit a HSK report, and have no prior experience of studying in China.

The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides tuition fee, accommodation, living allowance and medical insurance.
Tuition fee is deposited directly to and managed by the host institutions to provide teaching, administration, Chinese language proficiency tests (HSK/HSKK), and cultural and social activities for scholarship students. Text book costs are not included in the scholarship.
Accommodation fee is deposited to the host institutions to provide double occupancy rooms at campus residence. For those who live off campus with the permission of host institutions will receive the accommodation allowance of RMB700 per month from the host institution.
The One-Academic-Year Study and One-Semester Study scholarship students will receive living allowance of RMB2,500 per month from the host institutions.
Enrollment status is based on academic calendars of the host institutions. Students who are enrolled before the 15th (or on the 15th) of the admission month, are entitled to the full allowance of that month. Students, who are enrolled after the 15th of that month, are only entitled to half of the allowance.
The living allowance for the month of graduation will be granted half a month later upon confirming the graduation status by the host institutions.
During the study, for any students who is absent from China for personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding legal holidays), the allowance will be suspended during absence. Allowance will be terminated in case of suspension or withdraw for personal reasons.
Medical insurance is purchased by the host institutions for the scholarship students at RMB800/person/year for the One-Academic-Year study, MB400/person for the One-Semester study, and RMB100 for 4-Week study students.
The One-Academic-Year Study and One-Semester Study students are required to attend Chinese language proficiency test HSK before graduation. Test fee is covered by the host institutions.
- Application & Admission

For application, please log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarships website (http://cis.chinese.cn) to register, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarships Application Form online, select the preferred host institutions and programs, and upload the scanned copies of the required supporting documents. Confucius Institute provides consultation and facilitation in the application selection, application documentation review, connecting the host institutions. The review and admission shall be completed 2 months prior to the start of the school year or term.
After confirming the admission, the host institutions shall post “Letter of Admission” online for download and print. “Visa Application Form for Foreigners to Study in China” (JW202 Form) shall be obtained from the local Chinese Visa Service Centre in Ottawa, and a copy of the scholarship certificate shall be sent to the sending institutions within 15 working days.

- Recommendation letter signed by the Director of the Confucius Institute.
- Certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation), and an official transcript.
