\n CONNECT Project Team Leads Hands-On ADAS Workshop at National \u201cOn the Move\u201d Conference\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

The CONNECT Project team from Carleton University\u2019s ACE Lab and the SAM\u2083 Innovation Hub led a three-hour interactive workshop at the On the Move: The Canadian Driving Rehabilitation and Transportation Conference<\/em>, part of the CAOT 2025 Conference. The conference brought together a mix of professionals, including occupational therapists, driving instructors, mobility equipment manufacturers, healthcare providers, and researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop, titled \u201cIntegrating Practice and Technology: Adding Advanced Driver Assistance Systems into Driving Simulation to Support Safety and Accessibility,\u201d<\/strong> drew about 50 attendees. York Computer Technologies from Kingston, ON, joined as a workshop facilitator to support hands-on simulation activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants received a practical introduction to key ADAS features\u2014such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance\u2014and explored how these technologies might support safer, more accessible driving for clients with diverse needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Kathleen Van Benthem led a discussion on integrating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) into driving assessment and training.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To demonstrate real-world applications, the team brought seven driving simulators in various configurations, including desktop, laptop-based, and virtual reality systems. Attendees rotated through stations to try 2D and 3D environments and discuss strategies for integrating ADAS into driver assessment and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
