Through the integration of ADAS in autonomous vehicles, the project is set to address common challenges these groups face on the road. The project\u2019s key objectives include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Novice drivers<\/strong>: Leveraging ADAS technology to compensate for driving inexperience, improving overall driving safety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Older drivers<\/strong>: Empowering seniors to effectively use ADAS systems, thereby maintaining safety despite age-related physical and cognitive changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will employ advanced methods such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Driving simulations<\/strong>: Featuring ADAS technology integrated into simulation software.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Test track studies<\/strong>: Conducted at AREA X.0, a closed test facility for SAE Level 3 autonomous vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The project includes a comprehensive approach, encompassing the development, implementation, and evaluation of an ADAS training protocol tailored for novice and older drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative directly aligns with several key objectives of the ERSTPP, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Addressing the leading causes of collisions and fatalities<\/strong> related to driver inexperience or cognitive\/physical impairments, particularly among novice and older drivers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Advancing innovative design and testing<\/strong> in Connected and Automated Vehicles, utilizing novel driving simulation and test track technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Educating and training vulnerable drivers<\/strong>, helping them develop the skills necessary to use emerging safety technologies effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding announcement occurred at Kanata\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hub350.com\/\">Hub 350<\/a> and was made by Transport Minister Anita Anand and Families Minister Jenna Sudds, joined by Liberal MP Yasir Naqvi and Kelly Daize, Executive Director of the Kanata North Business Association.
