His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, the 28th Governor General of Canada, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Tuesday, June 7, “in recognition of his successful career as an educator, brilliant leader of many post-secondary institutions and his service to Canada as Governor General.”


Her Excellency Sharon Johnston, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., C.C.

Her Excellency Sharon Johnston was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Tuesday, June 8, “in recognition of her work as a Canadian author, in rehabilitation science and with children, and her service as a volunteer public servant.”


Daniel Alfredsson

Daniel Alfredsson was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Tuesday, June 7 “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Canadian hockey and, in particular, his commitment to the community through philanthropic efforts that include mental health awareness and advocacy for equality for athletes, regardless of their sexual orientation.”


Gail Asper, O.C., O.M., LL.D.

Gail Asper was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Tuesday, June 7, “in recognition of her humanitarian work, advocacy for human rights, and leading volunteer service to the community.”


Jodi White, C.M.

Jodi White will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Wednesday, June 8 “in recognition of a distinguished career in journalism, public service and volunteer leadership.”


Margaret Bloodworth, C.M.

Margaret Bloodworth was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Wednesday, June 8 “in recognition of her outstanding career in public service and leadership service to the community.”


Karim Rashid, B.I.D.

Karim Rashid was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9 “in recognition of his outstanding and internationally acclaimed contributions to the profession of industrial design and popular culture.”


Peter Coughlin, B.C., M.B.A.

Peter Coughlin was awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9, “in recognition of his leadership in business development, architectural heritage and his volunteer service in the fields of health and education.”


John Ruddy, B.Arch

John Ruddy was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9 “in recognition of her leadership as an entrepreneur and developer contributing to the fabric of Ontario’s infrastructure, and as a patron of the arts, history and sports.”

Tom Jenkins was presented with the degree Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9 “in recognition of his stellar contributions to education, enterprise and innovation in both the public and private sectors in Canada.”


Bonnie M. Patterson, C.M., O.Ont., B.A., M.L.S., ICD.D

Bonnie Patterson was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 10 a.m. ceremony on Friday, June 10, “in recognition of her leadership and service to Trent University and to all universities in Ontario as she guided them though changing times and built a strong network of shared vision.”


John Daniel O’Leary, B.A., LL.D.
