Carleton Internal Expression of Interest
Carleton is permitted to submit up to three (3) proposals per SSHRC Destination Horizon Grants competition deadline. As such an internal selection and approval process is required.

Internal Application Process Process
Step 1- contact your Faculty Research Facilitator and Asli Eran, Research Facilitator, International Initiatives, to discuss the funding opportunity.
Step 2- Submit the following information Asli Eran (asli.eran@carleton.ca):
- Horizon Europe Pillar 2 Call ID
- Horizon Europe Pillar 2 Call Title
- Horizon Europe Pillar 2 Call Deadline
- Invitation Letter from the European Consortium Coordinator (If you have not received the letter please indicate when you requested it and from whom. If you have not requested the letter, please indicate include this piece of information.)
- Expression of Interest (Maximum two (2) pages, 12pt font, New Times Roman)
The two (2) page EoI MUST CONTAIN1) Description of the existing relationships with researchers, partners, networks and/or consortia from European Member States and Associated Countries (if any)2) Description of the planned partnership activities and how these activities will support / contribute to the development of a Horizon Europe Pillar 2 proposal3) Research and expertise fit with one of the six thematic clusters of Pillar II and contribution to solving global challenges: Details of the Pillar 2 Call (if known) 4) Timeline of the activities: Details on how all activities can be undertaken within one year.

Step 3- Within two (2) to three (3) weeks, the Carleton internal committee coordinator will contact you to provide you with the Committee’s decision. Please note that if you are approved to submit to the funding opportunity, the Office of the Vice-President, Research and International, may provide up to 100% of the required 100% matching funds from the host institution.
Step 4- Develop SSHRC proposal with your Faculty Research Facilitator
Step 5- Submit CUResearch Approval Form at least seven (7) days prior to the SSHRC submission deadline
Step 6- Submit SSHRC proposal in the portal no later than 11:00AM on the day of submission

Funding Opportunity Information Overview
Destination Horizon Grants support researchers affiliated with eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and further develop networks and/or consortia with European Union and other “associated countries” researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to Horizon Europe—Pillar II calls for proposals. The grants support activities between researchers that facilitate:
- disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges;
- scholarly exchanges;
- intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
- international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges between researchers affiliated with Canadian postsecondary institutions and researchers, students and non-academic partners from the EU and other associated countries.
Value and Duration
Up to $15,000 for 1 year.
Eligibility Criteria
Most SSHRC funding is awarded through open competitions. Proposals can involve any disciplines, thematic areas, approaches or subject areas eligible for SSHRC funding. See the guidelines on subject matter eligibility for more information.
Projects whose primary objective is to conduct research activities (e.g., literature reviews, field work, data collection, interviews) are not eligible for funding under this funding opportunity.
To be eligible for this funding opportunity, applicants must demonstrate:
- their eligible affiliation and primary affiliation in the social sciences or humanities;
- their readiness to further develop networks and/or consortia with EU and other associated countries’ researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to a Horizon Europe—Pillar II call;
- eligible budget requests; and
- 100% matching cash contributions from the host institution.
