Announcements
*Reminder that the deadline for application to the CU SSHRC Exchange Mobilization Grants Program is on December 13, 2018.
*From NSERC: Update on NSERC’s New Research Partnerships Program:
- During the autumn of 2018, NSERC undertook a series of briefing sessions with our community to solicit and discuss feedback on the first draft of the new Research Partnerships program design. We appreciate the rich, constructive feedback from these sessions as well as emails we’ve received from our stakeholders. NSERC has listened and incorporated much of this valuable input, which has led to several modifications to the new program design. For full details about the proposed structure, parameters and features of the program, please consult the new version of the Research Partnerships Framework. We invite you to provide your feedback to RPR@nserc-crsng.gc.ca until January 2, 2019.In addition, with the forthcoming implementation of the new Research Partnerships Program, NSERC has established transition plans for its current partnership programs included in the consolidation.
*New Frontiers Research Fund
- The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) will invest $275 million over the next five years, and $65 million ongoing, to support international, interdisciplinary, fast-breaking and high-risk research. See above in the “All/Multiple Disciplines” category for more information.
*Updating Your Academic Online Profiles
In light of the Strategic Mandate Agreement with the Province and its associated metrics for Carleton, OVPRI would like to recommend to all faculty with online academic profiles to take a few minutes to ensure they are updated with your latest information. These sites could include your own Carleton-hosted web pages, Google Scholar profiles, ResearchGate, or others. With a growing number of publishers and funders adopting persistent author identifiers to help distinguish you from every other researcher, we also recommend you obtain an ORCID and ResearcherID.
If you are considering registering for an ORCID, the library can advise you as to its benefits and walk you through the process. Please contact Patricia Moore or reach out to the library at: orcid@library.carleton.ca.
*OVPRI and ITS Collaborate to Support Researchers
The Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) (OVPRI) and Information Technology Services (ITS) are collaborating on a number of initiatives to enhance IT support for researchers.
Initiatives include:
- New university-wide licenses for IBM SPSS software and NVivo Plus software. Both are free of charge for all faculty, staff, and students.
- New university-wide license for the Qualtrics Research Core software coming in the new year. Free of charge for all faculty, staff, and students.
- These licenses are in addition to the software packages already available free of charge for all faculty, staff, and students (MATLAB, Trend Micro, MS-Office 365, STATA, and more).
- New ITS personnel appointed to support researchers and OVPRI.
- Increase secure data storage capacity for researchers, with opportunities for self-serve capabilities.
For more information, including downloading the new software and details on the new positions, please visit: https://carleton.ca/its/2018/ovpri-and-its-collaborate-to-support-researchers/.
If you require research-related IT support, you can contact Research Computing Services. All other ITS service requests should go through the ITS Service Desk.
