{"id":965,"date":"2014-06-04T23:03:54","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T03:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cosc\/?post_type=cu-people&#038;p=965"},"modified":"2014-07-22T09:50:58","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T13:50:58","slug":"chet-holterman","status":"publish","type":"cu-people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cosc\/people\/chet-holterman\/","title":{"rendered":"Chet Holterman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Research:<\/span>\u00a0 Dr. Holterman investigates\u00a0the role of NADPH oxidase 5 (Nox5) in diabetic nephropathy. He focuses\u00a0on identifying factors that directly initiate Nox5 activity and the downstream effects of this activity on podocyte injury. His research includes\u00a0clinical aims such as therapies designed to inhibit Nox5 activity in nephropathy and reduce or inhibit the factors activating Nox5 expression. Interestingly it has been shown that Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)\u00a0generated by NADPH oxidase stabilize the hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) family of transcription factors and that HIF2a regulates protein translation in response to low oxygen in cancer cells.
