Building access is restricted to authorized personnel only with exception of buildings and spaces within them that are designated as publicly accessible. The current list of publicly accessible buildings and spaces, offices that are now open and hours of operation are listed on the Building Updates webpage.

Employees are expected to continue to work remotely. Any work that can be done from home, must be done from home.

In addition to the protocols below, all employees must follow any additional approval processes and protocols that have been put in place within your unit, department or Faculty. Please consult with your, supervisor, manager, Dean or relevant approver for more information.

Mandatory Campus Access and Screening Requirement

Under Orders from the Government of Ontario and guidance from Public Health Ontario and Ottawa Public Health, Carleton University is required to implement COVID-19 screening for all employees (including faculty, contract instructors, staff, teaching/research assistants, and post-docs)

The short COVID-19 Daily Campus Access & Screening Form must be completed each day you plan to come to the Carleton campus and enter a university building.

Protocol for Seeking Temporary Visit

Faculty and staff are allowed temporary access (in and out, 1 hour or less) to obtain or retrieve materials necessary for the organization to operate remotely. This includes temporarily accessing your office to collect books and materials that will assist in teaching. Individuals working remotely should only come to campus for these limited purposes.

You must complete the COVID-19 Daily Campus Access & Screening Form before coming to campus and select the following option:

  • Temporary visit to pick up something (in & out, 1 hour or less)

Protocol for Seeking Temporary Use of Space

Faculty and staff are allowed temporary access to facilities (longer than 1 hour), even for activities not listed as essential, to complete necessary work that cannot be attended to remotely to maintain business operations.

In all instances, you will need the approval of your supervisor, manager, Dean or relevant approver. This approval, if not already provided, can be requested through the Request Building Access form.

You must complete the COVID-19 Daily Campus Access & Screening Form before coming to campus and select either of the following options:

  • Employee seeking temporary use of space for necessary work (longer than 1 hour)
  • Employee seeking full day of necessary work to maintain business operations

Access to Individual Faculty Offices

Restricted access to individual faculty offices is permitted in certain buildings.  It is understood that a faculty member choosing to return to campus for the individual use of their office is on a voluntary basis.

You must complete the COVID-19 Daily Campus Access & Screening Form before coming to campus and select either of the following options:

  • Temporary visit to pick up something (in & out, 1 hour or less)
  • Employee seeking temporary use of space for necessary work (longer than 1 hour)
  • Employee seeking full day of necessary work to maintain business operations

Faculty members who require access to their office for longer than 1 hour, and who do not have pre-approved access may request access through the Dean or relevant approver for their Faculty as part of the Building Access Request form.

Classroom Studio Recording Requests

Carleton Online (formerly CUOL) Technical Operators are able to provide assistance in helping record lectures in one of the studio classrooms. Course instructors can record their course introduction, update a lecture or two, or even record entire lectures. Please complete the classroom studio recording request form.

Resumption of Research Activities

Resumption of on-campus research activities that cannot be done remotely will need to be progressive in order to be compatible with provincial, health authorities, and municipal policies and guidelines and relevant Carleton policies and procedures.

The approval of the relevant Dean is required to resume research activities on campus as set out in the Principles and Procedures document (PDF, 133 KB). No research activity that can be carried out remotely will be approved to be carried out on campus.

Accessing the Tunnels

Access to the tunnels has been restricted to authorized individuals only and those with approval to use the tunnels for accessibility purposes.

Please avoid using the tunnels at all times.

Access requests should be directed by email to your manager, supervisor, Dean or relevant approver. They will submit your tunnel access approval to covidinfo@carleton.ca.
