Deadline: Thursday March 10, 4 p.m.

The English Department is pleased to announce our annual Lilian I. Found and George Johnston Poetry Competitions.

Lilian I. Found was a contributor to mid-twentieth century Canadian poetry in Ottawa and George Johnston was also a poet and former Professor of English at Carleton University.

For the Lilian I. Found award, one prize will be awarded for the best unpublished poem of 50 lines or less by a full or part-time undergraduate student currently enrolled at Carleton.

For the George Johnston Prizes, three prizes and two honourable mentions will be awarded for previously unpublished poems by full-time or part-time students currently enrolled at Carleton.

Students may jointly enter up to five poems in any form for both prizes (total length should not exceed 250 lines). Students may submit the same poems for both the Lilian I. Found award and George Johnston Poetry prizes.

This year’s competition judge is Ottawa poet, Jean Van Loon, author of Building on River (Comorant Books).

Prize winners will be notified by March 31, 2022.
