Over the next few weeks, five graduates from the program will be profiled.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erin Chezick was inspired by her working environment to sharpen her skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking at a university, continued education is obviously something important and highly valued,\u201d said Chezick, administrative co-ordinator with Carleton University\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Campus Card Office<\/a>. \u201cA background in business is important and useful no matter where you work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"435\" height=\"290\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/erin-chezick-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1.jpg 435w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1-160x107.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1-240x160.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/criw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/erin-chezick-1-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Chezick graduated from the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/program\/management-certificate-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Management Certificate for Women<\/a>&nbsp;(MCW) program in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sprott School of Business<\/a>&nbsp;in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and I moved to Ottawa right after high school to do my undergraduate degree here at Carleton,\u2019\u2019 said Chezick.&nbsp; \u201cAfter I graduated, I got a job with the Student Experience Office.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduating with a science background, Chezick was encouraged by her manager to apply for the MCW, and decided to give it a try. She loved the experience and the skills she acquired and now Chezick has chosen to pursue her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.carleton.ca\/programs\/mba-business-administration-masters\/\">MBA<\/a>&nbsp;at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt gave me a starting point where I wasn\u2019t going to be a fish out of water,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe biggest thing I got out of it was a really good, directive knowledge about business and a baseline to work from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Management Certificate for Women&nbsp;Wins Points for Flexibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chezick praised the program for its flexible schedule. The program sessions runs two consecutive days once per month for seven months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From September to March, students learn to envision and implement strategic initiatives, practice confident leadership, develop strategies to overcome unique challenges faced by women in management positions, and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone [in this program] comes from such diverse backgrounds that when you all come together it makes you appreciate the broader context. What you learn is very practical, it\u2019s relevant to your working life,\u201d said Chezick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I could have gotten the skills I learned from the MCW, in the timeline provided, from anywhere else,\u201d she said. \u201cNot everyone has the time or finances to embark [on] a full degree program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Offering Support and Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chezick was especially impressed with the support and innovation of the staff and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou get so much personalized attention and feedback,\u201d she said. \u201cHands down I don\u2019t think I could have gotten the skills I learned anywhere else as quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chezick explained that the biggest advantage she noticed \u2013 and the advice she would give to current and future students \u2013 is to take advantage of the networking opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMake an effort to tap into those networks as early as you can.
