Dr. Teather’s research falls broadly under the field of human-computer interaction, with specialization in 3D user interfaces, virtual reality, and user interfaces for computer games. His PhD work focused on developing standardized methods for the empirical comparison of input devices for 3D interaction – primarily in order to compare mouse and 3D tracker-based input. To this end, Dr. Teather has established himself as an expert in comparing drastically different input devices in common fundamental interaction tasks (e.g., target selection), across varying system configurations (e.g., display properties such as stereo graphics, or system properties such as latency). His PhD was supported by an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship, and an Ontario Graduate Scholarship. His research is supported by NSERC and the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Research Areas

Virtual reality interaction: input devices, interaction techniques, cybersickness, haptics

3D user interfaces: selection and manipulation interfaces, mobile devices as input controllers, Fitts’ law

Games: mobile game control, in-game information display (e.g., diegetic displays, HUDs)

Research Topics

Human-Computer Interaction

Game Design, Development, & Interactions

Virtual & Augmented Reality

Activities

Chairs & Technical Program Committees

Conference Paper Program Chair, IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces – VR 2018, 2019

Technical Program Chair for Graphics Interface – GI 2019

Technical Program Chair for the IEEE Symposium on 3D User Interfaces – 3DUI 2017

Technical Program Chair for the ACM Symposium on Spatial User Interaction – SUI 2016, 2017

[36,37

post-266","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-faculty","cu_people_type-full-time-instructors
["GET
