He holds a PhD in architecture and urban planning from the University of Li\u00e8ge, Belgium. His PhD was funded by the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS). In 2021, Hamza received the Civil Society Scholar award from the Open Society Foundation to pursue a research-creation fellowship at the Technoculture, Art and Games (TAG) Research Centre, Concordia University. His research sits at the intersection of urban issues and playful simulations, particularly examining the implications of playful interventions and computer simulations in participatory design and social movements. His ongoing research engages with the datafication of crowd behaviour.
