Conference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"about-the-panel\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On May&nbsp;31 2017,&nbsp;the Centre for Studies on Poverty and Social Citizenship (CSPSC), in Collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwp-csp.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canada Without Poverty (CWP),<\/a> and with support from <a href=\"https:\/\/caswe-acfts.ca\/social-policy-and-advocacy-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CASWE\u2019s Social Policy and Advocacy Committee<\/a>,&nbsp;hosted a panel discussion focusing on poverty and human rights in Canada at the <a href=\"https:\/\/caswe-acfts.ca\/conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CASWE National Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the panel discussion was to provide an <strong>overview of Canada\u2019s recent successes and failures in realizing the objectives of the UN Conventions<\/strong>, as well as to examine their implications for Canadian policymakers and social work practitioners in creating meaningful and sustainable change to the economic and social landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion&nbsp;focuses primarily on the precedents set by the international human rights treaties and the recent UN Treaty Body reviews of Canada including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Review <\/strong>in February 2015;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Review <\/strong>in October 2015;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And the ongoing review of<strong> The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities<\/strong>, concluding in April 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"speakers\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speakers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel was moderated by
