Melissa Redmond and Ilyan Ferrer reinvigorated and recharged the Centre for Studies in Poverty and Social Citizenship (CSPSC), housed within Carleton\u2019s School of Social Work.&nbsp;&nbsp; CSPSC\u2019s full return to operations included staffing announcements, an improved submission process, and new supports for Social Work students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>September 2022<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hiring of Centre Coordinator<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre for Studies in Poverty and Social Citizenship was pleased to report the hiring of Dave Cavana as the Centre\u2019s Coordinator and Administrative Support. &nbsp;&nbsp;Located in RM 619, Dunton Tower, Dave is responsible for the day-to-day operations of CSPSC, which assists and supports faculty and students in the creation and dissemination of innovative and critical Social Work research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>November 2022<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reconnecting with FPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We reconnected with FPA, including Jonathan Malloy, Associate Dean (Research and International) to discuss the function of CSPSC as a faculty research centre, and opportunities for expansion.&nbsp; Also, we began conversations with the Faculty of Public Affairs Research Facilitators to explore funding and grant opportunities for CSPSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>December 2022<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CSPSC Research Support Opens<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre became available to support faculty projects, which could include assembly of grant proposals, website management, training and management of research assistance, and more.&nbsp; Project Submissions are open for faculty to submit <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cspsc\/requestsupport\/\">on our website, in the&nbsp; Request Research Support portal.<\/a> Projects will be reviewed and selected by the CSPSC Project Selection Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Website Re-design<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre completed a comprehensive website redesign, increasing usability and navigation.&nbsp;&nbsp; To assist faculty in submitting their projects, a Request Research Support Portal was built to streamline the application process to the Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>January 2023<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Conference Support Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre for Studies on Poverty and Social Citizenship was pleased to announce a new Student Conference Support Program.&nbsp; In line with the Centre\u2019s mission to support critical and innovative Social Work knowledge dissemination, applications opened to any current part-time or full-time Social Work student (BSW, MSW, PhD) whose work has been accepted to a conference.&nbsp;&nbsp; Up to $500 <em>per project<\/em> could be awarded, and if there is more than one student, funds will be split evenly between each member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the funds is to assist in covering ancillary costs of attending a conference, such as travel or lodging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications can be completed via the CSPSC website <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cspsc\/request-research-support-student-conference-support\/\">here<\/a>.&nbsp; (<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cspsc\/request-research-support-student-conference-support\/\">https:\/\/carleton.ca\/cspsc\/request-research-support-student-conference-support\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>February 2023<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Conference Support &#8211; Abstract Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Redmond introduced the new funding application process for the Student Conference Support Program, and discussed conference abstract development. &nbsp;&nbsp;This event is representative of our commitment to developing opportunities for research among Social Work students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Moving Forward<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We look forward to further engaging with Social Work faculty and students, as we relaunch the centre.&nbsp; This summer will see information sessions for Social Work faculty, a new Terms of Reference, and attendance at CASWE-ACFTS Conference in Toronto (Canadian Association for Social Work Educators).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the centre, contact <a href=\"mailto:cspsc@carleton.ca\">cspsc@carleton.ca<\/a>, or visit Dunton Tower RM 619.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2022-2023 Year in Review After a 2.5 year pause due to COVID, co-chairs Drs.
