Summer 2024<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farewell to Dahlia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our CSPSC Coordinator, Dhalia Belfer, resigned from the coordinator position to pursue a MSW degree at McMaster University. We thank Dahlia for her work in the 2023-2024 year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcoming new Advisory Board<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSPSC welcomed new SSW Director, Dr. Deborah Connors, Dr. Tsitsi Mketwa-Mpofu, and Andrea Kenny to the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board offers strategic advice and leadership for CSPSC, as well as oversight for CSPSC\u2019s financial activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fall 2024<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research Administrative Support \u2013 Welcome Campbell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Studies on Poverty and Social Citizenship welcomes Campbell Dicken aboard as a research administrative support. Campbell is currently a BSW at Carleton University\u2019s School of Social Work and will help to coordinate major CSPSC events for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

50th Anniversary of the CSPSC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 16th, 2025 the CSPSC marked a significant milestone by hosting the 50th Anniversary alongside the School of Social Work\u2019s 75th Anniversary. The event\u2019s keynote, Nathalie Appleyard (Citizens for Public Justice), offered a compelling presentation on Social Work and Social Change: Individual agency, collective responsibilities and mutual flourishing. As with past CSPSC events, the 50th anniversary united students, faculty, alumni, and community partners in a vibrant celebration of the Centre\u2019s past, present and future. Spring 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing Retreat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre is hosting a Faculty writing retreat from May 27-29th where the goal is to offer dedicated time to write, and also support ongoing research on poverty, social inclusion and social citizenship. This is also an opportunity for colleagues to engage meaningfully with the CSPSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Development of manuscript<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming off the heels of a successful CSPSC 50th Anniversary event, co-chairs Drs. Melissa Redmond and Ilyan Ferrer are in the process of writing a peer-reviewed manuscript reflecting on the Centre\u2019s contribution to social work and poverty research. Assistance is being provided by former coordinator, Dahlia Belfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transition to New Team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Drs. Redmond and Ferrer going on sabbatical July 2025, the team is actively transitioning to new leadership for 2025-2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
